Russian institutions from the state and industrial sector have fallen victim to a large-scale cyber attack, as revealed by cybersecurity company Kaspersky Laboratory. The attackers employed phishing techniques, sending malicious emails containing an infected attachment that triggered a new backdoor.
Backdoors are typically embedded in software either during its development or at a later stage, such as through the use of malicious software. These backdoors can be utilized for espionage purposes or to gain remote control of a targeted system or device.
