Google Disables Gas Sector Traffic Jams at Israeli Military’s Request

Google Temporarily Disables Live Traffic Function in Israel and Gaza at Military Request

Google temporarily turned off the function of viewing the conditions of road traffic in real time on the territory of Israel and in the controversial sector of gas for its Maps and WAZE applications. This was done at the request of the Israeli army in the light of a recent open confrontation with Palestine.

The representative of Google said: “As in previous conflict situations and in response to a developing situation in the region, we temporarily disconnected the possibility of seeing the conditions of movement and information about workload in real-time for the safety of local communities.”

According to a source familiar with the situation, the decision was made to prevent the Israeli troops’ movements from being revealed through real-time traffic data. Google had taken similar measures against another well-known conflict last year.

Despite the disconnection of real-time road conditions, drivers using navigation systems will still receive the estimated time of arrival based on current conditions. However, a visual display of traffic congestion with color-coded sections of the route will not be available.

The Israeli Geektime technological site was the first to report the development, stating that Apple Maps also fulfilled the request of the Israeli army. Representatives from Apple and the Israeli defense forces have not yet commented on the situation.
