Boeing has encountered a threat from cybercriminals known as Lockbit, who have warned that they will release the company’s confidential data if their demands are not met by November 2. In a message on the Darknet, the group set a deadline for Boeing, stating that they possess a significant amount of sensitive information that will be made public once the deadline passes. Boeing has responded to the threat, acknowledging the statement and indicating that they are analyzing it. LockBit is a well-known hacker group that frequently employs ransomware to block victims’ systems and then demands payment for their release. According to the NCC Group, Lockbit was responsible for a staggering 79 ransomware attacks on organizations in September, establishing itself as the leader in the field. This group has consistently held a prominent position in the hacking industry. Notably, many hacker groups, including Lockbit, are shifting away from the traditional double extortion tactics, instead opting to steal confidential documents and demand a ransom for their non-disclosure. From a psychological perspective, potential victims may be more inclined to pay for the protection of their data rather than face the complete paralysis of their business operations by the attackers. |
