KDE Backs Wayland Anti-Exposure for Color Management

In the code base on which the user environment KDE Plasma 6 is built, support for Wayland protocol extensions responsible for color management has been added to the composite server Kwin[1]. This means that in the KDE Plasma 6 session on Wayland, users now have the ability to manage colors separately for each screen[2]. They can assign ICC-profiles for each screen, ensuring correct color reproduction in applications that utilize Wayland[2]. Moreover, the “Color Picker” application now converts selected colors into the SRGB color space and takes color profiles into account[3]. However, unresolved tasks remain, such as accounting for color management settings for X11 applications launched using XWayland[4].

Among the recent changes in the code base of KDE 6 are:

  • A visual effect in the form of a rotating cube representing the contents of desktops[5]

  • Addition of new modes in the Spectacle screenshot creation program, including capturing only the active window and capturing the window where the cursor is located. There is also now an option to disable shadows in saved screenshots[6]

  • Improvements in the Discover application manager, including changes to the background color, improved alignment of application cards, modernized behavior of the side panel when searching, support for program
