Last weekend, rumors emerged on the network suggesting that the Signal messenger had discovered a zero-day vulnerability related to its “Generate Link Previews” feature.
According to these rumors, this vulnerability would allow hackers to gain access to devices. It was suggested that users could protect themselves by disabling the “Generate Link Previews” function in the Signal settings.
However, the company has come forward to clarify that there is no evidence supporting the existence of this vulnerability. In a statement published on their official Twitter account*, Signal stated:
“After conducting a thorough investigation, we have found no reason to believe that this vulnerability is real. We have not received any additional information about it through our official feedback channels.”
In an effort to further address the issue, Signal reached out to representatives of the US government. The goal was to obtain any information regarding this rumored vulnerability. However, according to the company, their sources within the government confirmed that they have no knowledge of such a vulnerability.
Nonetheless, Signal is urging anyone with legitimate and credible information about the vulnerability to reach out to their security team.
