An international group of scientists, funded by the BRAIN® initiative of the National Institute of Health in the USA, has successfully created detailed maps of the genetic, cellular, and structural composition of the human brain and primates. This project aims to provide a deeper understanding of the cellular basis of brain functions and dysfunctions, potentially paving the way for the development of targeted therapeutic interventions for individuals with psychiatric and other brain disorders.
The newly unveiled detailed maps of human brain cells and primates offer a groundbreaking opportunity, according to Joshua Gordon, the director of the National Institute of Mental Health. He believes these maps can serve as a foundation for the development of novel treatment methods specifically targeting individual cells and neural circuits within the brain.
The research findings have brought forth several significant conclusions. First, three articles published recently represent the first-ever map of the cells in the adult human brain, revealing the transcription and epigenomic profile of the brain
