MX Linux, a lightweight distribution, has recently released version 23.1. This update was created through the collaboration of communities formed around the Antix and Mepis projects. The release is based on the Debian package base, with enhancements from the Antix project and packages from its own repository. MX Linux 23.1 uses the sysvinit initialization system and provides its own tools for system configuration and expansion.
The new release offers various options for download. Users can choose between 32-bit and 64-bit editions with the XFCE desktop, which have file sizes of 2.1 GB. There are also 64-bit assemblies available with the KDE desktop (2.5 GB) and Fluxbox window manager (1.7 GB). To download the different editions, visit the MX Linux website.
The MX Linux 23.1 release includes several notable updates and improvements. Firstly, it synchronizes with the package base Debian 12.2 and features updated versions of applications. The default initialization system remains sysvinit, but the option to install SystemD is also available.
One of the notable additions is the “ahs xfce” assembly, which provides extended hardware support. This edition includes the Linux 6.5 kernel, an updated version of Mesa, and updated firmware.
The installer has also been updated in MX Linux 23.1. The new version improves support for storage device partitioning, sleep mode transitioning, and OEM manufacturer installations.
Furthermore, for the KDE edition, the SDDM initialization script has been updated to eliminate unnecessary restarts of the display manager. And for the Fluxbox window manager, a script has been added to display the default keyboard combinations.
