Google announced the release of a new stable version of its browser – Chrome 118. The main attention in this update is paid to security: 20 vulnerabilities have been fixed, as well as several new tools to protect the system.
Among the elusiveness eliminated, the most interest is the CVE-2023-5218. It is associated with the “Site ISOLATION” function and is a bug like “Use after Free”. In addition to it, other defects with a full spectrum of criticality were identified: from low to high. Some of them allow arbitrary code execution and were already operated by attackers.
“Use after Free” means that the program is trying to use the memory site after its release.
One of the brightest features of the Chrome 118 was ENCRYPTED CLIENT HELLO, which allows you to preserve domain names (list of sites visited) a secret from Internet providers.
also Chrome 118 offers improved capabilities of safe viewing. Now users can remotely disable expansion, loaded not from the official online store. New mechanisms were introduced for detailed file analysis in safe mode: to check the contents of the archives, the system can request a password.
