October 10, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Agency (CISA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), National Security Agency (NSA), and the US Department of Finance released recommendations aimed at strengthening open software (OSS) in operating technologies (OT) and industrial control systems (ICS).
The recommendations are based on CISA’s recently published plan to enhance the security of open source software. The key recommendations include:
- Supporting the development and maintenance of OSS.
- Managing and eliminating vulnerabilities in OT/ICS infrastructure.
- Promoting cross-sector cybersecurity goals through the adoption of key cybersecurity practices for OSS.
In addition to these recommendations, CISA has launched an initiative called OSS Protection in OT. This initiative emphasizes the importance of joint cyber collaboration and highlights it as a priority task.
