Man Sentenced for Creation of AI-generated Sexual Images of Children in South Korea
According to a report by the publication Korea Gerald, a man in South Korea has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for creating sexual images of children using artificial intelligence (AI). The incident violates the country’s law on the protection of children and adolescents.
The accused, who is 40 years old, utilized a “program to create images based on AI” to produce approximately 360 explicit images, as revealed by the prosecutor’s office, as reported by the Korea Gerald. It is worth noting that the man did not distribute the images and they were confiscated by the police.
The accused employed certain keywords such as “10 years,” “naked,” and “child” to generate the images, resulting in remarkably realistic depictions. Consequently, the court dismissed any claims that the images should not be regarded as sexually explicit.
This court decision highlights the realization that fabricated yet authentic-looking images of minors, produced through modern technologies, can now be legally recognized as sexually offensive content.
