Sometimes astronomers observe intense bursts of radio waves from space, which are just a moment, but release as much energy over the millisecond as the sun in several years. The origin of these “fast radio splashes” remains one of the greatest mysteries of modern astronomy.

There are many theories explaining the cause of these bursts. Among them are highly magnetic neutron stars, clashes of incredibly dense stars and many other extreme phenomena.
