Elementary OS 7.1 Distribution Release

Elementary OS 7.1 – A Fast and Privacy-Focused Windows and MacOS Alternative

The release of the distribution Elementary OS 7.1 has been presented. Positioned as a fast and privacy-focused alternative to Windows and MacOS, this release emphasizes quality design and aims to provide a simple system with minimal resource consumption and high launch speed. Users are offered a unique desktop environment called Pantheon. The loading ISO-images (3 GB) for AMD64 architecture are available for download from the project’s website. Users can choose to donate any amount or enter 0 as the donation amount.

Elementary OS utilizes original components such as GTK3, VALA language, and its own framework, Granite. The distribution is based on the achievements of the Ubuntu project and is compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 in terms of packages and support of repositories. Additional applications available for installation via Appsenter, as well as some default applications, are packed using the Flatpak format. The graphic environment of Elementary OS is based on the Pantheon shell, which consists of components like the Gala window manager (based on Libmutter), the Wingpanel top panel, the Slingshot launcher, the Switchboard control panel, and the lower task panel. The environment includes a set of applications closely integrated into a single environment, such as the Pantheon Terminal terminal emulator, Pantheon Files file manager, Code text editor, Music music player (Noise), and the Pantheon Photos photo manager (Shotwell Board) and Mail mail client (Evolution Boat).
