Android 14 Released: New Features and Updates
Google published the release of Android 14, an open mobile platform. The initial texts associated with the new release are posted in the GIT-Rooster project (Android-14.0.0_R1 branch), which can be accessed through this link. Firmware updates are prepared for the series of the “Pixel” line of smartphones. Google plans to roll out firmware updates for other smartphone models, including Samsung Galaxy, IQOO, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Shaarp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Moreover, universal assemblies called GSI (Generic System Images) have been created to support devices based on ARM64 and x86_64 architectures. More information can be found here.
The main innovations of Android 14 include:
- Integration of Health Connect: Previously available as a separate package on Google Play, Health Connect is now part of the main platform. It offers centralized data storage for health-related information from fitness trackers and other devices, allowing multiple applications to access the data. Users can control the access to their health data for specific applications through the platform’s privacy settings. Additionally, Health Connect now supports the preservation of training route information. Users can choose the duration for which the route history will be saved and even visualize it on a map. The route information can also be shared with other applications with explicit user consent. See the screenshot
