Classic package filter control iptables 1.8.10 has been published. The recent development of iptables has focused on maintaining reverse compatibility with the components iptables-nft and ebtables-nft. These components provide utilities with the same command line syntax as in IPTables and Ebtables, but broadcast the obtained rules into the NFTable Baitcode. The original set of IPTABles programs, including IP6Tables, Arptables, and Ebtables, was categorized as obsolete in 2018 and has already been replaced by NFTables in most distributions.
In the new version:
- The utility xtables-translate now supports Insert rules, which indicate the index number (converted into NTF-rule ‘Insert Rule … Index N’). More info
