Fortiguard Labs, a division of Fortinet, recently uncovered the activity of a hacker group known as IZ1H9, targeting Internet of Things (IoT) devices with the aim of infecting them with a botnet. This revelation comes as the cybersecurity community continues to grapple with the consequences of botnets and their role in some of the most destructive Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
The botnet in question, known as Mirai, was initially discovered in August 2016. Since then, it has been repeatedly used to carry out powerful and damaging DDoS attacks.
