1032 Bitcoin Proceeds Go to Russian State Budget

Moscow Court Confirms Verdict Against Former Investigator Accused of Extortion

The Moscow City Court has affirmed the decision of the Nikulinsky District Court, confirming the legality of the verdict against Marat Tambiev, the former head of the Investigative Department of the State Medical University of the IC in the Tver district of Moscow. Tambiev was accused of extorting over 1,000 bitcoins from the hacker group Infraud Organization, and the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation’s requirements were satisfied. The Court of Appeal’s press service stated that “the decision was not changed,” according to TASS.

On June 19, the Nikulinsky District Court issued a ruling in the civil case against Tambiev, which resulted in the confiscation of 1,032 bitcoins owned by the defendant in favor of the Russian Federation.

Tambiev, who was investigating the activities of the Infraud Organization, allegedly began demanding illegally earned bitcoins from the accused hackers. The hackers subsequently reported the situation to the Federal Security Service (FSB), leading to the arrest of Tambiev and his subordinates. The Prosecutor General’s Office then filed a lawsuit to recover the bitcoins obtained from the accused. As a result, Tambiev was also charged with bribery.

In March, the Tagansky District Court of Moscow convicted the Infraud Organization of engaging in the illegal circulation of payment funds as part of an organized group, in violation of Article 187, Part 2, of the Russian Criminal Code.
