Lg Masters Confidently Step Towards 6G Future

LG stated about the successful wireless transfer and acceptance of data on 6G on a terahertz (THz) range at a distance of 500 meters. This is the longest distance recorded in any 6G test conducted outdoors in a city. The testing was conducted by the LG U+ unit at the LG SciencePark in Magok, Seoul, South Korea. [1]

This achievement comes after the company’s successful test in 2022, where data was transferred and accepted on the same communication channel, but at a distance of 320 meters at the Institute of Fraunhofer Henry Hertz in Berlin. The previous experiment also led to the development of key devices for 6G transmission and acceptance. [2]

The recent test at the LG SciencePark holds great significance as it not only increased the data transmission distance to 500 meters, the standard for many urban base stations, but also validated the applicability of 6G in various real-world scenarios. [1]

The evolution from 5G to 6G will bring substantial improvements in data transfer rates, latency reduction, and the integration of communication and artificial intelligence technologies. 6G will play a crucial role in LG’s future directions, including autonomous driving, augmented reality, and smart homes. Standardization discussions for the 6G network are expected to commence around 2025, with commercial implementation slated for 2029. LG’s investments in research and development, strategic partnerships, and successful technology demonstrations demonstrate the company’s preparedness and commitment to lead the global transition to 6G. In October, LG will showcase its key achievements in 6G technology development at the LG 6G Tech Festa. [5]

“We will continue to collaborate with research institutes and technology companies, as well as conduct our own advanced research and development activities, to dominate the 6G standard technology and strengthen our technological leadership in this important field,” said Dr. Kim Ben Hong, Technical Director and Executive Vice President of LG Electronics.
