Chrome OS 117 Released

Chrome OS 117 Released with Exciting New Features

The stable channel update for Chrome OS 117 has been announced, bringing a range of enhancements to the popular operating system. Chrome OS 117 is based on the Linux core and includes the UPSTART system manager, EBUILD/Portage assembly, and open components of Chrome 117. While primarily centered around a web browser, Chrome OS also features a complete multi-window interface with a desktop and taskbar. The source texts are distributed under the free license Apache 2.0. The new release is available for a wide range of relevant models through the Chromebook website, and an alternative version called Chrome OS Flex is provided for use on ordinary computers.

The main changes in Chrome OS 117 include:

  • Support for sound indication of the battery charge has been added to the settings. When using the device in autonomous mode, the system now provides sound signals when the charge is reduced to 15 and 5 minutes of operation. Connecting the device to external power also triggers different sound signals to indicate the current level of charge, with separate signals for charge ranges of 0-15%, 16-79%, and 80-100%. Additionally, warning messages are displayed when the charge drops to 10% and 5% if the power of the connected charger is insufficient and the battery continues to discharge.
  • The emoji selection interface now features images in GIF format, enhancing the visual options available to users. (
