Kaos 2023.09 is now available, offering a distribution with continuous updates and a desktop based on fresh KDE issues and applications using QT. Notable design features include the placement of the vertical panel on the right side of the screen. While the distribution is developed with a focus on Arch Linux, it has its own independent repository with over 1,500 packages and offers a range of its own graphic utilities. By default, Kaos uses XFS as the file system. Assemblies are published for x86_64 systems and have a size of 3.5 GB.
The new version of Kaos includes several updates:
- Desktop components are updated to KDE Plasma 5.27.8, KDE Frameworks 5.111, KDE Gear 23.08, and QT 5.15.10 with patches from the KDE project. It also includes QT 6.5.
- Updated versions of various packages, such as Linux 6.4.16, Openssl 3.1.3, Boost 1.82.0/ICU 73.2, ALSA 1.2.10, Systemd 253.10, Python 3.10.13, Util-Linux 2.39.2, IWD 2.8, Openexr 3.2.0, and Libarchive 3.7.2.
- The development of an experimental assembly with an environment based on KDE 6 technologies continues. This assembly includes an installer based on the Calamares framework, but it is not yet ready. It also adds new KDE applications adapted to work with QT 6 and KDE 6. The Midna design topic for Plasma 6 has also been completely redone.
