Canadian airports were hit by a cyber attack, resulting in the disconnection of key computer systems for at least an hour.
The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) confirmed that issues with registration and gates occurred due to a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. The Montreal Airport Administration also reported failures in control and access points at borders across the country, according to the newspaper “LA Presse.”
The systems were restored within a few hours. The agency emphasized that the safety of Canadians and foreign guests is their top priority and assured that passengers’ personal data was not compromised.
The hacker group Noname057 (16) has previously claimed responsibility for cyber attacks on several Canadian organizations, including the CBSA and Air Transport Security Agency. It is not surprising that they are the main suspects in this incident.
The Canadian Cybersecurity Center has issued a warning regarding DDOS attacks targeting the government, financial, and transportation sectors in Canada.
The CBSA does not directly link the incident to Noname057 and has not disclosed how the attackers managed to infiltrate the airport’s computer system. Experts recommend isolating this system and keeping it disconnected from the internet.
Recently, another hacker group called Novescape claimed responsibility for an attack on an organization that oversees water resources on the US-Canada border.
