After six months of development, GNOME has presented the release of desktop-rejection GNOME 45. For quick assessment of GNOME 45 capabilities, specialized Live devices based on opensuse and installation image, prepared as part of the initiative of Gnome OS. GNOME 45 is also already included in the experimental assemblies ubuntu 23.10 and Fedora 39.
In the new issue:
- Button “Overview” (“Activities”), placed in the corner of the upper panel, is replaced by a dynamic indicator of virtual desktop. In addition, in order to release a place in the panel for new design elements, the application menu showing the name of the active program.
- Optimization of the performance of the search system and reduced resource consumption when performing applications such as Software, Characters, Clocks, Files and Calculator.
- In the upper panel, a new indicator signaling the switching of the camera is offered. The indicator is shown only when contacting the camera from applications using the Pipewire multimedia server (for applications working with the camera bypassing Pipewire, the indicator is not shown). Updated the style of a previously available microphone inclusion indicator.
- In the quick change menu of the most commonly used settings, a button to control keyboard backlight is added. To quickly open and close the speed menu of the settings, use the keyboard combination “Super/Windows + S”.
- To increase the effectiveness of video playback and the creation of the screenshots, available means of hardware acceleration are now used.
- Updated the design of the cursor. Increased smoothness of the indicator movement, even with a high load on the system.
- Added a new light systemic style of interface design, which can be used instead of the default dark style. The new style is turned on by the Gsettings Set Org.gnome.desktop.interface Color-scheme Prefer-light (Settings for inclusion is not yet integrated into the configurator).
- In the Wayland session, support for the software KVM-community input leap.
