The company Neuralink has announced the participants for its first clinical test in developing implantable neurocomputer interfaces. This announcement was made on their official website, where they also stated that the main objective of the test is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a new medical device that connects the brain to a computer. Neuralink is particularly interested in inviting patients with paralysis and those diagnosed with Lud Gerig (ALS) to participate in the study. They have also opened a registry for individuals who are interested in participating in future clinical research.
Furthermore, the CEO of Neuralink, Elon Musk, revealed in June that the first operation of implanting the chip into a human brain will be broadcasted live this year. The initial recipient of the implant will be someone who is tetraplegic or paraplegic, meaning they have paralysis in all or two of their limbs.
The study and clinical test are being conducted with the approval of the FDA, which was obtained in May 2023.
