Microsoft Cloud Services Hit by Hacktivist DDOS Attacks

Microsoft has revealed that a massive DDOS attack was the cause of serious disruptions in its cloud services including Outlook, OneDrive, and Azure Cloud in early June this year. According to reports, the mysterious group responsible for the attack was called “Anonymous Sudan”.

However, cybersecurity firm, Truesec, has stated that Anonymous Sudan has no links with the popular online activist group known as “Anonymous”. Rather, they appear to have been created as part of a Russian misinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing Sweden’s application to join NATO.

Anonymous Sudan has reportedly teamed up with other notorious hacking groups such as Killnet and Revil to launch a broader DDOS attack on European banks and the SWIFT system. The group has also threatened SAS airlines and has demanded a ransom of $10 million to terminate the DDOS attacks against the airline.
