Purpose’s Az Tower Cloud Platform Restored After Cyber Attack

Japanese company Purpose has announced that its cloud platform Az Tower, which provides energy management services for over 1,100 companies in Japan, is now restored after a 10-day cyber attack on June 18. Purpose specializes in commercial water heating equipment and adjacent equipment.

The company discovered the attack on June 8 when the security service noticed malicious software in some of its systems. To protect customer data and prevent further virus distribution, the company suspended the platform and began its investigation.

The suspension of the platform affected many companies specializing in warmth and electricity, such as gas suppliers who were forced to delay reading gas meters and close client portals. The production of liquefied oil gas also suffered.

Purpose stated that during the incident, customer data remained inaccessible and refuted rumors that the platform was attacked by the Trigona robber program. The company explained that the attack was carried out by unknown hackers to disrupt the platform’s work and damage the business.

Therefore, Purpose apologized to its clients for the inconvenience and promised to improve the security measures on Az Tower. The company also thanked all organizations and individuals who supported and cooperated in the process of restoring the platform’s function.

Launched in 2013, Az Tower is one of the leading cloud platforms in Japan for energy management. The platform offers various functions to optimize expenses and increase energy supply efficiency. It supports various types of energy, including liquefied oil gas, electricity, heat, and renewable sources.
