Issue Libreboot 20230625

Libreboot, the free loading firmware project based on Coreboot, has released its latest version – stable output 20230625. This comes a year after the last stable release. The project offers assembly of Coreboot, which replaces the proprietary firmware BIOS and UEFI, minimising binary inserts and allowing for more open use. The objective is to create a systemic environment that allows the use of open source and free software. Additionally, the release complements Coreboot by simplifying usage through the provision of a ready-made distribution that anyone can use.

The new Libreboot release includes support for the HP Elitebook 2570P, HP 8300 USDT, and GIGABYTE GA-GAL41M-ES2L. The release primarily focuses on increasing stability and correcting errors. Alternative images not including microcode for CPU X86 have also been developed. A list of supported equipment can be found on the project website.

Supported desktop systems include gigabyte GA-G41M-SE2L, acer g43t-am3, Intel D510MO / D410PT, Apple Imac 5.2, HP Elite 8200 SFF/MT, and HP Elite 8300 USDT. The list of supported laptops includes ThinkPad X60 / X60S / X60 Tablet, ThinkPad T60, Lenovo ThinkPad X200 / X200S / X200 Tablet / X220 / X230, Lenovo ThinkPad R400, Lenovo ThinkPad T400 / T400S / T420 / T440, Lenovo ThinkPad T500 / T530, Lenovo ThinkPad W500 / W530, Lenovo ThinkPad R500, HP Elitebook 2560p / 2570p / Folio 9470m, Dell Latitute E6400 / E6400 XFR / E6400 ATG, Apple MacBook1 and MacBook2, Asus Chromebook Flip C101, and Samsung Chromebook Plus.

Libreboot aims to enhance computer accessibility by promoting free and open standards. This is a crucial development for users who want to avoid proprietary firmware that can impede access to technology. The latest release is a significant move towards this goal.
