Red Hat announced about the expansion of the paid advanced support service (ELS, Extended Life Cycle Support), which issues updates with the correction of critical problems after the end of the 10-year escort cycle. For the RHEL 6 distribution, ELS support has been carried out for three years, and for the RHEL 7 branch it has been expanded to four years. Thus, for RHEL 7, the possible escort time will be 14 years.
In accordance with the full-time 10-year-old the RHEL 9 distribution cycle will be accompanied until May 31, 2032, RHEL 8 will be supported until May 31, 2029, and RHEL 7 until June 30, 2024. Support for CentoS Stream 8 will last until May 31, 2024, and Centos Stream 9 until May 31, 2027 (5 years less than RHEL 8 and 9).
As for other distributions, the 10-year escort period is provided in the SUSE Linux and Ubuntu distributions (5 years + 5 years Extended Security Maintenance). Debian GNU/Linux support, taking into account the expanded LTS support program, is 5 years (plus selectively another two years as part of the Extended LTS initiative). Fedora Linux is supported for 13 months, and openSUSE is supported for 18 months.
