Microsoft has released a new preliminary assembly of Windows 11 for participants in the Windows Insider program in the DEV channel. Assembly 22494 offers several new functions and improvements, including the support for AI Copilot, 7-Zip, and RAR formats, as well as a new settings home page.
The newest addition, AI Copilot, is an intelligent assistant designed to assist users in various tasks like finding information, creating documents, editing photos and videos, teaching new skills, and more. AI Copilot is seamlessly integrated into the taskbar and can be activated either through voice or keyboard commands. Users can utilize natural language to ask questions, seek advice, or issue commands to the assistant.
Moreover, Windows 11 now supports the popular file compression formats, 7-Zip and RAR. Users can now conveniently view, extract, and create archives of these formats without the need to install additional software. The update also introduces the option to encrypt and password-protect 7-Zip archives.
The new settings home page provides a simplified and user-friendly way to access the main system parameters. Frequently used settings such as network connectivity, sound control, screen brightness, battery status, as well as quick links to other sections of the settings, are displayed on the home page. Furthermore, users can easily view the current update status and system security details.
In addition to these improvements, assembly 22494 addresses several bugs and makes further enhancements. Microsoft reminds users that the assemblies in the DEV channel are experimental and may contain errors or exhibit unstable behavior. Those who prefer more stable versions of Windows 11 can opt for the Beta or Release Preview channels.
