The Linux distribution Peppermint OS has announced its release, which is built on the basis of the DEBIAN GNU/Linux package base. Initially, Peppermint OS was based on Ubuntu, but it has now moved to Debian. The distribution plans to form devuan-based assemblies that will be supplied without the SystemD system manager. The size of the ISO images is 1.5 GB. [source]
Peppermint OS offers a user environment based on the XFCE desktop and the Thunar file manager. It follows the principle of installing the minimum environment with the option to choose preferred typical programs from the recommended list. The distribution uses Calamares as an installer. Some of the applications included in Peppermint OS are the HBLOCK advertising blocker (which blocks based on DNS), the PEPPPERMINT HUB application, configurators with an interface based on Tkinter, and kumo ssb, which is a Site-SPECIFIC BROWSER for working with web applications as separate programs. The latest release of Peppermint OS brings several features and updates. This includes an updated design with a new logo and changes to the boot screensaver. The WelCome application has been restructured to allow users to choose popular installation applications and set desired system settings. The Suggested applications interface offers a list of recommended applications for installation. In Pepperint Hub, SNAP and Flatpak are now supported. The Kumo Web applications launch app is now translated to the use of LUA and has a simplified interface. It no longer places the Web applications buttons in the system menu but serves as an interface for launching them. Lastly, the release includes the involvement of the Debian 12 package base. [source]
