Proxmox Releases Proxmox Backup Server 3.0
Proxmox, the developer behind Proxmox Virtual Environment and Proxmox Mail Gateway, has announced the release of the distribution called proxmox Backup Server 3.0. This distribution offers a complete solution for backup copying and recovery of virtual environments, containers, and server fillings. The installation ISO-image is available for free loading.
The specific components of this distribution are open under the AGPLV3 license. Users have access to both the paid Enterprise repository and two free repositories, each offering a different level of update stabilization.
Based on the DEBIAN and OpenZFS package base, the system part of the distribution is designed to manage backups. The software stack, written in RUST, supports incremental backups (transmitting only the changed data to the server), deduplication (storing only one copy in the presence of duplicates), compression (using ZSTD), and encryption of backup copies. Proxmox Backup Server can be used both for working with local backups and as a centralized server for backup data from different hosts. It also provides quick selective restoration and data synchronization between servers.
Proxmox Backup Server integrates seamlessly with the Proxmox VE platform for backup copying of virtual machines and containers. Backup copies and data recovery can be managed through the user-friendly web interface. Additionally, users have the ability to control access to their data. All transmitted traffic from the clients to the server is encrypted using AES-256 in GCM mode, and the backup copies themselves are transmitted already encrypted using asymmetric encryption. This ensures the security of the data even in the event of a compromised server.
In the latest release, Proxmox Backup Server introduces the following features:
- The distribution is now based on the DEBIAN 12 package base. The Linux nucleus is updated to version 6.2, with an updated version of OpenZFS 2.1.12
