GCC Adopts Code of Conduct for Developers

GCC Steering Committee Approves Code of Conduct for Compiler Developers

The GCC Steering Committee, responsible for the development of the set of compilers known as GCC, has recently approved a Code of Conduct aimed at regulating the behavior of community members. The Code of Conduct, which can be found at gcc.gnu.org/condukt.html, covers discussions in postal newsletters, Bugzilla, chat, and any other community platform.

While discussions in the GCC community are usually civil, there are instances where conversations go beyond conventional decorum. Therefore, the Code of Conduct aims to provide a tool for both influencing community behavior and notifying the leadership about individual offenses. The Code of Conduct will also serve as a guide for newcomers on proper behavior and what they can anticipate from the community.

The Code of Conduct emphasizes the values of friendliness, tolerance, goodwill, attentiveness, respect, accuracy, and a willingness to delve into details when disagreeing with others. Moreover, the Code of Conduct espouses an open-door policy, welcoming participants of any level of expertise, gender, race, culture, national origin, physical ability, religion, political beliefs, marital status, age, or sexual orientation.

In conclusion, in adopting the Code of Conduct, the GCC Steering Committee hopes to promote a healthy, respectful, and inclusive GCC community.
