Fheroes2 Launches Open-Source Heroes of Might and Magic 2 Engine 16 June

A new version of FHeroes2, which recreates the engine of the game Heroes of Might and Magic II from scratch, is now available. The project is written in C++ and distributed under the license GPLv2. To play the game, game resource files are required, which can be obtained from the demo version of Heroes of Might and Magic II or from the original game.

The latest version, FHeroes2 1.0.5, comes with a number of updates and changes. Among the highlights are the addition of smooth transitions between game windows, a new hiring window for the “evil” interface, improved speed of animation for creature movement during battles, accelerated graphics and optimized sound reproduction.

The latest version also comes with a range of bug fixes and optimizations, with over 30 errors closed. Heroes of AI can now actively protect their cities and troop distribution has been improved. In addition, changes have been made to optimize the AI and fix critical problems in logic.

Another major change in FHeroes2 1.0.5 is the basic implementation of the interface of the editor of the cards. Code restructuring has been done to add new artifacts.
