JavaScript Tops Stack Overflow’s Most Common Language List for 11th Year

Stack Overflow has released its latest survey results after conducting traditional research IT, attended by 90,000 programming specialists. The results show that JavaScript continues to dominate the programming languages ranking, holding the first position for 11 consecutive years, followed by HTML/CSS and Python.

Stack Overflow has changed its program of ranking programming languages based on which developers like the most to reflect the ratio of programmers who want to use a language, and those who have experience working with it and intend to continue. For instance, despite its popularity, only around 40% of programmers want to use JavaScript while 57.83% have tested it and want to use it further. Meanwhile, Rust is the most beloved among developers with ratios of 30.56% and 84.66% and is followed by Elixir, Clojure, Zig, and Raku. The most unloved languages are Matlab and Cobol with only 18.31% and 20.33% of developers wanting to use them in the future.

Regarding Cloud platforms, Amazon Web Services is in the first place, followed by Microsoft Azure in second and Google Cloud in third.

The survey also included a new section about AI tools, and about 70% of respondents already use them or plan to in the future, with most novice developers turning to AI tools. 77% also support the use of AI for programming citing an increase in performance and acceleration of training as some of the benefits. However, only 42% of developers trust the accuracy of AI results. II-tools are used mainly for writing and debugging code, with GitHub Copilot taking the first place among development tools followed by Codium and Whispr AI.

Rating of the Use of AI Tools

The most popular tools for searching include ChatGPT, PhIND, and Wolfram Alpha, with developers expressing interest in using Bard and Bing in the future. Overall, the survey shows that the IT market continues to progress, developing and incorporating new technologies, with developers choosing programming languages that match their needs and interests. Cloud platforms and AI tools are becoming more in demand and useful for programming.
