Google ends support for Dialer and Messaging apps in Android open code base

Google has recently announced that the Dialer and Messaging applications, which are supplied in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository, will be categorized as outdated applications. These applications were initially developed as open source texts of the Andro platform ID, but will now be removed from the repository in the future. As a result, assemblies based on AOSP will require the mandatory use of external applications for the implementation of this functionality.

Both the Dialer and Messaging applications were usually considered working prototypes, with examples of organizing work with challenges and text messages. However, these applications were rarely used in practice. Independent assemblies provided by firmware phone manufacturers, created on the basis of ASOP, such as Lineageos, used their own implementations of Dialer and Messaging applications.

Overall, this change will not significantly impact users of Android phones, as most phones already use external applications for making calls and working with SMS. Nevertheless, this announcement represents another step towards the consolidation of the Android ecosystem, with Google seeking to streamline operations and eliminate unnecessary redundancy in their platform.
