Google Launches Initiative to Protect Users from Cryptomining Attacks
Google has recently revealed a new initiative aimed at preventing users from being attacked by malicious cryptomining activities. As part of the program, Google is offering users a Cryptomining Protection Program Cover, which includes compensation of up to $1 million if Google Cloud Compute resources are used illegally for cryptocurrency mining purposes, resulting in significant operational losses.
In order to apply for compensation, users must comply with the program’s rules and apply for compensation within 30 days of the attack, covering unauthorized expenses for computing power. The final decision on the allocation of compensation is at the discretion of Google’s leadership, with compensation limited to the maximum amount of $1 million for 12 months.
It is important to note that users will not be eligible for compensation if they have experienced cryptomining attacks during the same 12-month period. This restriction aims to ensure the program remains focused on providing assistance to individuals who have suffered from such attacks.
Google emphasizes that users are responsible for their measures to deal with and eliminate the consequences of attacks. However, the company is actively helping users by offering automated solutions to detect and respond to attacks promptly. Google also provides timely notifications to keep users updated on potential threats.
At present, the program covers the COMPUTE Engine virtual machines and computing media supported by the SCC Premium’s Virtual Machine Threat Detection. Other Google Cloud services are not yet included in the program.
It is worth noting that breaching the network of a corporation as renowned as Google and conducting cryptomining activities are not easy tasks. Google has a highly automated system that can detect and respond quickly to threats. Its confidence in its security measures may have led the company to offer significant compensation to injured users.
The launch of Cryptomining Protection Program Cover demonstrates Google’s commitment to providing users with an additional level of security and financial protection in the current climate of cybercrime development.
