The Federal Security Service of Russia in the Tambov Region has announced the successful detection of a cybercrime committed by a resident of Kotovsk. The 39-year-old suspect hacked into a financial organization’s network using a program that neutralizes information protection means.
The criminal activity occurred in July 2022 and prompted an investigation by the Federal Security Service. Following an inquiry, a criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Art. 273 of the Criminal Code of Russia, which criminalizes the creation, use, and distribution of harmful computer programs.
The Kotovsky City Court subsequently found the perpetrator guilty of the offense and convicted him to one year of restriction of freedom, based on the evidence presented by the Federal Security Service.
The verdict has entered into legal force and been enforced, the press service of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Tambov Region confirms. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect organizations from cyber breaches by malicious individuals.
