Apple has announced at the WWDC23 conference that it has introduced a new tool, the Game Porting Toolkit, which enables game developers on the Windows platform to port their products and launch them on MacOS. The toolkit is based on the CodeWeavers’ patches used in the Crossover package for MacOS.
The Game Porting Toolkit uses the latest release of Crossover — Crossover 22.1.1 — which allows games to be launched based on the API DirectX 10 and 11. An initial support for DirectX 12 is expected to be added in the development of the Crossover 23 release.
This move is expected to boost gaming on the MacOS platform. With Apple’s new tools, game developers can create their products on the Windows platform and easily make them available for MacOS users as well.
