Researchers have uncovered a harmful campaign that targets Spanish-language users in Latin America with the participation of Botnet Horabot. The campaign has apparently been around since November 2020, and the attackers use banking trojans and spam newsletter tools to infect their targets.
The malware employed in the campaign enables hackers to gain unauthorized access to users’ Gmail and Outlook accounts. These services provide reliable protection against spam and viruses, and allow users to organize their emails in folders and apply filters for ease of use. Hotmail, which is also integrated with other Microsoft services like the calendar and OneDrive cloud storage, has been renamed Outlook.com, but users can continue to use their existing Hotmail accounts without any changes.
This latest campaign highlights the importance of staying vigilant against cyber threats. Users should always be cautious when receiving suspicious emails and avoid clicking on any links or downloading attachments from unknown sources. It is crucial to keep security software up to date and to use strong passwords that are changed regularly. By taking these important measures, users can help protect themselves against cybercrime.
