Proxmox Virtual Environment 7.4 has been released with new features and updates. The specialized Linux display, built based on Debian GNU/Linux, is aimed at deploying and maintaining virtual servers using LXC and KVM. It can replace products such as Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware vSphere, and Citrix Hypervisor.
The ISO image for the installation of Proxmox VE 7.4 is 1.1 Gb and can be downloaded from their website. The distribution comes with built-in tools for organizing and backing up virtual environments and clustering support, including the possibility of migration of virtual environments from one unit to another without stopping the work.
The Web interface was also updated with new features, including dark design theme, sorting of guest systems by name in the tree list of resources, and detailed information about CepH OSD provided in the Web interface and API. Moreover, users can now download logs of tasks and enjoy expanded editing work related to backup copying. Proxmox VE 7.4 also supports local types of storage facilities located on other cluster nodes and has an interface for choosing a node while adding storage.
The development of the Cluster Resource Scheduling (CRS) planner was also improved. The new version now adds the possibility of automatic re-balance of virtual machines and containers at the launch stage, not just during recovery. Additionally, the CRM command was added to the Ha Manager manager for manual transfer of the active unit into the maintenance mode without the need for rebooting.
Proxmox VE 7.4 aims at deploying and managing virtual machines in an efficient manner with control through a Web interface designed for managing hundreds or even thousands of virtual machines. It offers support for various authentication mechanisms, including MS ADS, LDAP, Linux Pam, and Proxmox VE Authentication. Furthermore, it comes with improvements to the Russian interface translation.
