Cloud platform Apache CloudStack 4.18 was recently released, providing automation of private, hybrid and public cloud infrastructure deployment, configuration and maintenance (IAAS). The platform was transferred to the Apache fund by Citrix, which obtained the project after acquiring Cloud.com. Installation packages were prepared for CentOS, Ubuntu and openSUSE.
The platform, which does not depend on the type of hypervisor, can be used with XEN, Oracle VM and VMware in one cloud infrastructure. It provides a web interface and a special API for managing the user base, repository, computing and network resources. A basic cloud infrastructure consisting of one control server and a set of computing nodes can be used. More complex systems support the use of clusters from several control servers and additional load balancers, and the infrastructure can be divided into segments, each operating in a separate data center.
Issue 4.18 is classified as LTS (Long Term Support) and will be supported for 18 months. Key updates include support for Edge Zone, automation systems for virtual machines, a user data management API, a two-factor authentication framework, authentication support using disposable passwords with a limited time action, support for encryption of storage sections and integrated support for SDN Tungsten Fabric. Ceph Multi Monitor support, improved console access controls, new interface with global settings and adaptive groups of the virtual machine attachment to the hosts are also included in the upgrade.
