Cyber attacks surge on Russian financial institutions: Bank of Russia

Last week, Russian financial organizations experienced a surge in cyber attacks, according to the press service of the Bank of Russia. Several banks encountered temporary service shutdowns due to DDOS attacks, although most had low technical characteristics that were successfully repelled by the financial organizations’ protection systems.

One of the larger attacks was reported by Rosbank, which suffered a temporary shutdown of its mobile applications, internet bank, and credit institution. Attacks were also recorded at Uralsib and Ak Bars Bank. The attacks were typically directed at the official websites and resources used by banks to provide services.

The Central Bank of Russia emphasized its ongoing cooperation with credit organizations to combat cyber attacks. It provides operational counseling when necessary.
