employees of Canonical opened information On the Ubuntu-mini-iso project, developing a new minimal assembly of Ubuntu, about 140 MB. The main idea of the new installation image is to make it universal and representing the possibility of installing the selected version of any official assembly Ubuntu.
The project is developing Dan Bungert, accompanying the installer subiquity . At this stage, the work prototype has already been prepared and tested, work is underway to engage in the assembly of the official Ubuntu infrastructure. The new assembly is supposed to be published along with the spring release of Ubuntu 23.04. The assembly can be used to record on CD/USB or for dynamic download via UEFI HTTP. The assembly provides a text menu, with which you can choose the UBUNTU editorial office, the installation image for which will be loaded into RAM. Data on available assemblies will be loaded dynamically using simplestreams .
