The group with 238,000 employees intends to develop, for 2023, in the digital and personal assistance sectors.
La Poste resisted in 2022 in its first decline in parcel deliveries, with a net profit up 11 %. However, the group anticipates a “more difficult” 2023 year and wants to grow in digital and local services. “The year 2022 was characterized by a very difficult situation with the slowdown in growth, the war in Ukraine, the increase in energy prices and generalized inflation,” detailed the CEO, Philippe Wahl, when of the presentation of the results for the past year, Thursday, February 23.
However, “there is a strong resistance of the activity and the group’s results,” he praised. Turnover increased by 2.3 % compared to 2021 to 35.4 billion euros, as well as net income (+ 11 %).
fall in traditional mail
For the first time, parcel transport marked the plunge in 2022, with 2.6 billion distributed packages (- 3 % over one year) after an exceptional 2021 year. In France, the volumes of Colissimo are down marked, by 10 %, and even Geopost (express parcel, of which Chronopost in France) accuses a drop of 1 % of volumes due to the atony of the market in Germany and in the Kingdom- Uni.
The turnover of the subsidiary has nevertheless increased, approaching the 15.6 billion euros (+ 6 %) thanks to pricing increases. The parcel activity now represents more than half of La Poste’s turnover, while traditional mail continues its fall, with a decline of 8 % in 2022.
La Banque Postale, the group’s banking subsidiary, has reported an increase of 66 % of its net profit, to 1.06 billion euros, in particular thanks to integration at 100 % CNP assurances.
Consequence of these positive results, “profit -sharing will be the highest ever granted,” announced Philippe Wahl. It will amount to 958 euros per employee, against 592 euros last year. The La Poste group employs 238,000 people, including 184,000 in France. 2> Drugs and meals
If 2023 promises to be a complicated year, according to Mr. Wahl, he insisted on two vectors of growth: digital, “which will experience an acceleration of its uses”, and the new local services.
Digital represents 900 million euros in turnover and covers the activities of digital safe and cloud. In December 2022, Mr. Wahl had revealed his ambition to bring the turnover of this activity to “several billion in the coming years”.
The personal services sector weighs 700 million euros in turnover. With the gradual aging of the population and what Mr. Wahl calls “the domiciliary turn of great age policy”, there is “a considerable field” to conquer. La Poste “progresses in the delivery of drugs” and is already “leader in the delivery of meals”, he greeted. “We have delivered 3 million meals last year to a 40 million addressable market,” he insisted.
La Poste already offers personal assistance or home visit services such as “watch over my parents” which will therefore be led to develop.
