The Franco-Algerian activist Amira Bouraoui, at the heart of a diplomatic incident between Algiers and Paris, was sentenced Friday, February 24, in absentia in Tunisia to three months in prison for illegal entry into Tunisian territory, said her lawyer Hashem Badra. Despite a ban on exit from the territory in Algeria, Amira Bouraoui entered Tunisia on February 3, before being arrested while she was trying to board the French capital.
She had then been placed in pre -trial detention until her appearance on February 6 before a judge who had decided her release, by adjourning her file. The activist had finally been able to embark the same day on a flight to France, despite an attempt by the Tunisian authorities to expel it to neighboring Algeria.

Algiers judged that his departure for France was an “illegal exfiltration” carried out using French diplomatic and security personnel, and recalled his ambassador to Paris for consultation. In Algeria, four people were placed in pre -trial detention and a fifth under judicial supervision within the framework of an investigation into the “illegal” exit of M me bouraoui from the territory, announced the prosecution on Tuesday .
M me bouraoui became known in 2014 by his commitment to the Barakat movement (“enough”) against the fourth mandate of the president then Abdelaziz Bouteflika, before getting involved In the Hirak protest movement of which she has become one of the main faces. She was sentenced in June 2020 to one year in prison before benefiting from a provisional release in July of the same year.
