An Israeli strike on a residential building in Damascus killed fifteen people, announced, Sunday, February 19 in Beirut, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH). According to this non -governmental organization with a large network of sources in Syria, there are civilians among the victims. The deadly strike has targeted the Kafr Sousa district, a high security zone in the Syrian capital which houses the security and intelligence services, and where senior officials live.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense reported a provisional assessment of five dead, “including a soldier”, and fifteen injured “for some in critical condition”. “At 0:22, the Israeli enemy committed an air attack from the occupied Golan Plateau, targeting several sectors of Damascus and its surroundings, including residential districts”, detailed the ministry.
This is “the deadliest Israeli attack on the Syrian capital” to date, said Rami Abdel Rahman, OSDH chief. According to the official Syrian agency Sana, several buildings have been damaged.
No comments from Israel
Since the start of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has led hundreds of air strikes to its neighbor, primarily targeting positions from the Syrian army, Iranian forces and Lebanese Hezbollah, allies of the Syrian regime.
