Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the Minzifra proposal to introduce a digital identity card as a replacement for a passport, which can be presented on a smartphone. The department plans to enter the relevant document to the government until May 1.
The initiative was expressed by the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications Maksut Shadaev, who claims that the use of a paper passport is not always justified.
The head of the department told the president that the use of a digital passport will be very simple.
“We have developed the technology, it works very simply: a photograph is loaded from a biometric passport on a smartphone, then you have generated a QR code that you present. And the one who wants to check your bases (for entering), from a mobile application Government services, too, through a QR code, checks either your age or name, ”the head of the department described the algorithm of this system.
The minister also noted that the technology is safe and protected and fully agreed with the FSB. According to Shadaev, the use of a QR code in 80% of domestic situations will replace the use of a paper passport. A regular passport is not canceled, but citizens will have a choice which document to present. The President instructed to prepare the corresponding decree before May 1.
