FESCO Committee (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), which is responsible for the technical part of the development of the distribution Fedora Linux, approved offer , allowing full access to the application catalog Flathub.
Starting with Fedora 35, users offered a limited selection of applications (white list) for Flatpak, implemented using the Fedora-Flathub-Remove package. In Fedora 37, instead of a white list, a filter was implemented, which removed unofficial packages, proprietary programs and applications with limiting licensing requirements.
In Fedora 38, the application filter will be disconnected, but the implementation of the filtration mechanism will be left in case the future requires such an opportunity. To determine which package is offered by default, in the presence of Flatpak and RPM packets with the same programs, the priority of installation will be introduced in Fedora 38. When using GNOME Software interface applications, Flatpak packages from the Fedora project, then RPM packages and finish the package with Flathub will be put first of all. Thus, Flatpak packets from Flathub will be selected only when there are no other options. If necessary, for individual applications in Gnome Software, you can manually select the desired installation source.
