American legislator calls for Apple and Google to remove Tiktok from official application stores

US Senator from Colorado Michael Bennett on February 2, wrote a letter addressed to the heads of Apple and Google, demanding to prohibit Tiktok in official application stores. The ban is due to risks associated with the access of the Chinese government to huge amounts of data that the application collects about its American users.

Bennett, a democrat in the US Senate Committee, sent a letter to Tim Kuku and General Director General of Google Director General Sundaru Pichai. “Not a single company subordinate to the dictate of the Communist Party of China should have the authority to collect such extensive data about the American people,” Bennett wrote. He is also concerned that the communist regime can “use Tiktok as a weapon against the United States.” “Given these risks, I strongly urge you to immediately remove Tiktok from your applications stores,” the letter says.

CyberSheath CEO Eric Nunan said that using Tiktok on a smartphone, in essence, it seems that “your car is guarded by a professional hijacker.” Nunan also said: “Privacy problems are especially relevant due to the fact that the applications belong to China. The maternal company Tiktok, ByTedance, according to Chinese law, is obliged to provide these applications of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), and the PDA, in turn, has a long-term documented history Cyberatak for American companies and government institutions for the purpose of stealing and intellectual property. ” He also added that Tiktok has a sad track record when it comes to the rights to the inviolability of private life.
