An explosion left at least 17 dead and more than 80 injured Monday, January 30, during the midday prayer in a mosque in Peshawar, in northwestern Pakistan, according to the France-Presse (AFP) agency, AFP), who cites hospital and police sources. Part of the roof and a wall of the mosque, located inside the police headquarters, collapsed under the breath of the explosion, and an operation was underway to rescue people trapped under the Debris, noted an AFP journalist, who also saw two bodies being placed in an ambulance.

In March 2022, a suicide bombing claimed by the IS-K, the local branch of the Islamic State (IS) organization, in a Shiite mosque of Peshawar had killed 64 people. According to police, the suicide bomber was an Afghan national installed in Pakistan with his family for several years, who had prepared the attack in Afghanistan. Safety has been deteriorating in Pakistan for a few months, in particular since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021.

After several years of relative calm, the attacks have taken over, led by the Pakistani Taliban from Tehrik-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), IS-K or even Baloutches separatist groups. Pakistan criticizes the Taliban for letting these groups use Afghan soil to plan their attacks, which Kabul has not stopped denying.
