Less than 24 hours after the murderous attack perpetrated near a synagogue in East Jerusalem, a new shooting made two injured near the old city of Jerusalem on Saturday January 28, according to Israeli aid. The latter have not, for the time being, provided more details. The attack took place in Silwan, a Palestinian district on the edge of the old town.
Israeli police announced on Saturday that forty-two people were arrested in order to be questioned, after the shooting that claimed the lives of 7 people on Friday evening. Among them, “some are part of the terrorist family”, others live in his neighborhood in East Jerusalem. In a separate statement, the police said that Israeli forces had been placed in a state of “highest alert”.
Friday evening, a 21-year-old Palestinian opened fire near a synagogue in East Jerusalem during the Shabbat prayers, before being shot down after a chase.
“One of the worst attacks” since 2008
The shooting occurred in Neve Yaakov, Jewish colonization district in East Jerusalem, part of the holy city annexed by Israel. Police chief Kobi Shabtai has spoken of “one of the worst attacks” suffered by Israel in recent years. According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry of Affairs, this shooting has been the deadliest for the Israelis since 2008, when an attack on a Jewish seminar in Jerusalem had left eight dead.
