GitHub stops Subversion support

github announced about the decision to stop the support of the Subversion version management system. The ability to work with the repositories posted in GITHUB through the interface of the centralized system for monitoring the Subversion (svn.github.com) will be disconnected on January 8, 2024. Before the official closure at the end of 2023, a series of test disconnuses will be held, first for several hours, and then for the whole day. As a reason for the termination of support
Subversion mentions a desire to get rid of costs to escort unnecessary services – the Bacand for working with Subversion is noted as a task that has completed its task and no longer in demand by developers.

Subversion support was implemented in GITHUB in 2010 to simplify the gradual migration of GIT users who are accustomed to Subversion and continue to use typical SVN tools. In 2010, centralized systems were still widespread and Git’s complete dominance was not obvious. Currently, the situation has changed and Git has become in use to about 94% of developers, while Subversion has significantly decreased. In the current form, Subversion is practically not used to turn to GitHub, the share of contacts to this system has decreased to 0.02% and there are only about 5,000 repositories for which at least one SVN-figure per month is observed.
